The fall harvest season is one of the most exciting times for our local area wineries. Grapes are at their prime ripeness (as measured by their sugar, acid and tannin levels depending on the grapes and desired wine to be produced). Many of the wineries are planning celebratory events, and if you’ve ever wanted to recreate Lucille Ball’s infamous grape stomping episode, this might just be your opportunity! Check out some fun winery harvest events coming up soon:

Three Fox Vineyards, 7th Annual Lucy Stomp
  • 12–5 p.m., Sept. 21
  • Delaplane, Va.
  • Free
  • Let out your inner Lucy or Ricky at this original Northern Virginia Wine Country “stomp like Lucy” event. There will be a Lucy/Ricky/Fred/Ethel costume contest, live music by the Exaggerations with Michelle Dupwe, and Divine Wood Fired Pizza.

Ankida Ridge Vineyards, Hail To The Harvest
  • 12–5 p.m., Sept. 21
  • Amherst, Va.
  • $5 tasting fee
  • Celebrate the season of autumn and the excitement of harvest at the first annual "Hail To The Harvest" event, featuring the Yankee Dixie and The Blue Ridge Pizza Company. There will be hayrides up the mountain to the vineyard and tours of the winery and vineyard by the owners.

    Barboursville Vineyards, Italian Harvest Feast
