We're joining the Greek Embassy and Kellari Taverna for a DC Wine Week Greek Night! Greek for “cellar,” Kellari offers 350 Greek and international wines by the bottle and dozens by the glass — ample choice for pairing up with an extensive menu of contemporary Hellenic fare.

  • Greek Wine Cellars "Assyrtiko", White
    A premium white (single vineyard, low yielding, restrictive pruning and strict selection of barrels, limited number of bottles) from the island of Santorini. Golden yellow color, elegant, medium-bodied, with hints of citrus and apple on the nose. Crisp clean fruit on the palate with a pleasant acidity and a distinct minerality, derived from the unique character of the geology of this dramatic volcanic island. Pairs great with seafood.

  • Spiropoulos "Meliasto", Rosé
    Made from carefully selected Moshofilero and Agiorgitiko grapes (60%-40%), a rosé of appealing roe petal-pink color with intensity and character on the nose. Characteristic flavors of rose and of strawberry caramel, with a well-balanced and outstandingly pleasant flavor. To be enjoyed by itself or as a complement for a variety of Greek and international dishes.

  • Avantis Estate "Syrah", Red
    Opaque garnet color with ruby tints and complex bouquet of black and dried fruits (prunes, figs, blackberries), spices and vanilla. Constantly developing. Very full palate with aroma of ripe black fruit, jam, pepper, sweet spices, pepper ink, coffee, chocolate and tobacco. Ripe, fine-grained tannins, powerful structure and long length. The suitable word for it is "concentration". Recommended to be decanted 1 hour before consumed, paired best with meat dishes, especially lamb with herbs.

  • Antonopoulos Private Collection, Red
    A great combination of 60% Mavrodaphne and 40% Merlot. Attractive red color with brown hints, aromas of strawberry marmalade, myrtle, cinnamon and vanilla on the nose. Elegant, full-bodied with rounded tannins and lasting fruit in the mouth. Ideally served at 16-18°C with various pastas combined with red sauces, veal, steaks, sausage and strong yellow cheeses.
